Ten-Year-Old On Her Way To Receiving A PhD in Just Three More Years

At first glance Esther Okade seems to be the normal 10-year-old. She loves to dress up as Elsa from “Frozen,” playing with Barbie dolls and going shopping or out to the park.

But what makes this young British-Nigerian little girl so unique is the fact that she’s also a university graduate.

Esther, from Walsall, which is an industrial town in the West Midland region of the UK, is one of the country’s youngest College freshman.

The talented pre-teen enrolled into Open University, a UK-based distance learning college, in January and is already top of the class, having recently received a high 100% on an exam.

“It’s so interesting. It has the type of math I love. It’s real math — theories, complex numbers, all that type of stuff,” she giggles. “It was super easy. My mum taught me in a nice way.”

She adds: “I want to (finish the course) in two years. Then I’m going to do my PhD in financial math when I’m 13. I want to have my own bank by the time I’m 15 because I like numbers and I like people and banking is a great way to help people.”

And just in case people think that her parents have pushed her to pursue an early university education, Esther will quickly shut you down.

“I actually wanted to start when I was seven. But my mum was like, “you’re too young, calm down.” After three years of begging, mother Efe finally agreed to explore the idea.

Esther has always been able to jump ahead of her peers. She took her first Math GSCE exam, a British high school qualification, at Dunsdale High School in Wolverhampton at just six years old. She received a C-grade, and only a year later, she outdid herself and got the A-grade that she wanted. Just last year she scored a B-grade when she took the Math A-level exam.

She still has plans to complete the course and receive her PhD at the age of 13. She is currently working on starting her own bank.

Wow! What a miraculous story. Give us your thoughts on this young black genius.
